Joni Simatupang

Biography: Joni Welman Simatupang received his Bachelor (S.T.) in Electrical Engineering from Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2003, then Master (M.Sc.Eng.) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees both from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) – Taiwan Tech, Taipei in 2009 and 2014, respectively. Since then, he had been worked for 10 years (June 2014 – December 2024) as an Assistant & Associate Professors in President University, West Java, Indonesia. In this university, he has served as the Director of Research Institute and Community Service from 2016 to 2017, and Head of Electrical Engineering Study Program from 2017 to 2018. In September 2022, he received Ir. certification from Petra Christian University, Surabaya, Indonesia. Currently, since February 1st 2025, he has been working as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Study Program in Defense University, Indonesia. His research interests are Optical Communications, Photonics & Lasers, and Power Electronics. He has been serving as reviewer for some respective worldwide journals such as Optics Express, Applied Optics, Journal of Biomedical Optics, Optik – International Journal for Light and Electron Optics, Optical Fiber Technology, Photonics Research, Microsystem Technologies, Silicon, and Biomedical Signal Processing and Control. He is also a reviewer for many respective international IEEE conferences such as APCC, APCCAS, IAICT, ICRAMET, ICSECC, IoTAIS, SOFTT, and many more. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and IEEE Photonics Society, and also Senior Member of OPTICA. He is also a Member of PII (The Institution of Engineers Indonesia) and IAENG (International Association of Engineers).
